Terms of use

These are the terms between you and joyboy.club (run by an individual developer, contact at the end) for the joyboy.club iPhone app. By using the app you agree to them. The app is distributed through Apple's App Store under Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement; these terms add to it and, where the two differ, Apple's agreement governs your licence to the software.

1. Who can use it

You need to be old enough to hold an Apple ID in your country and to agree to these terms, and at least 13. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian should have agreed for you.

2. Playing

Playing any world in the universe is free and needs no account. It stays free.

3. Accounts

An account is needed to create worlds, keep a shelf, plant flags and report or block. You sign in with Apple or with an email address and a one-time code; there are no passwords. Keep your email account secure — anyone who can read your email can sign in as you. One person, one account. You can delete your account at any time from Me → Account → Delete my account.

4. Creating worlds, and what a credit is

• Every new account can create one world free.
• After that, creating a world costs one credit. Credits are bought in packs as one-time purchases. Nothing renews and nothing expires. In the iPhone app packs of 3, 10 and 30 are sold by Apple, and prices outside the United States are set by Apple in local currency. On joyboy.club packs of 10 and 30 are sold by Paddle.com Market Ltd, our reseller and merchant of record, who charges you and handles any tax; Chinese customers are charged in yuan and can pay with Alipay or WeChat Pay.
• A credit only buys a world that works. If the world fails to build, or our own inspector scores it below our bar (we label those a "rough cut"), the credit is returned to your balance automatically. You are charged for a world that cleared the bar, or not at all.
• Revising a world with a note is a polish of a world you already have, and never costs a credit.
• Credits belong to the account, not the device. They survive reinstalling the app as long as you sign in. They have no cash value and cannot be transferred or exchanged for money.
• Refunds depend on who sold you the pack — see Refunds below. However a pack is refunded, the credits from it are removed from your balance.
• The memberships sold before 11 September 2026 have been retired; no account holds one. If one still shows in Settings › Subscriptions, cancel it there — Apple handles that and any refund.

5. Refunds

Which rule applies depends on where you bought the pack, because the two shops are run by different people.

• Bought in the iPhone app. Apple sold it and Apple refunds it, under App Store terms — ask at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue those refunds ourselves.
• Bought on joyboy.club. Paddle sold it. Write to hello@joyboy.club within 14 days and we will refund any credits you have not spent, to the card or wallet you paid with. Say which address you bought with; that is all we need.
• Credits you already spent are not refundable, because a world was built and is yours to keep. The exception is the one that is automatic and needs no asking: a world that fails to build, or that our own inspector scores below our bar, returns its credit to your balance by itself. You are charged for a world that cleared the bar, or not at all.
• If you are a consumer in the EU or the UK, this sits on top of your statutory rights, it does not replace them.

6. Your sentences and your worlds

• You own the sentences and notes you write. Do not write anything you do not have the right to use.
• Worlds are generated by software from your sentence. You may play, keep, revise, rebuild and delete them. A world stays private until you send it into the universe.
• If you send a world into the universe, you give joyboy.club a worldwide, royalty-free licence to show and let others play that world, its sentence and your username, for as long as it is in the universe. You can pull it back to private at any time; the licence ends then. If you delete your account, worlds already in the universe stay, with your name removed.
• joyboy.club owns the console, the built-in worlds, the artwork and the sound. You may not copy the app, its code or its worlds outside the app.

7. What may not go into the universe

Every world sent to the universe is looked at by a person before it appears. We decline or remove worlds that are, or that depict:

• hateful, harassing or threatening content, or content that targets a person or group;
• sexual content, or anything sexualising minors;
• graphic violence toward real people, or content that glorifies self-harm;
• impersonation of a real person, brand or organisation;
• material that infringes someone else's copyright or trademark;
• anything illegal where you or we are.

A declined world stays playable on your own shelf. Repeated attempts to publish such content can close your account.

8. Reporting and blocking

Every member-made world in the universe has Report this world on its play screen. Reports are read by a person; three open reports pull a world back into review at once. The report sheet lets you block the maker, which hides all of that maker's worlds from you. We act on reports of content that breaks section 6 within 24 hours by removing it and, where warranted, closing the account that posted it.

9. Fair use of the service

Do not use scripts or automation to create worlds or sign in, do not try to reach other members' data or the server behind the app, do not try to break out of the sandbox the worlds run in, and do not resell access. We may rate-limit, suspend or close accounts that do.

10. AI-generated content and no guarantees

Worlds are made by an AI model and tested by software. They are sometimes disappointing, and a small game can contain mistakes. We test every world before it reaches you and refund the creation when a world fails our bar, but we do not promise that any world will be fun, finished, or exactly what you imagined. The app is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, joyboy.club is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from the app; our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits rights that consumer law gives you and that cannot be excluded.

11. Changes to the service and to these terms

We may change or discontinue features, and we may change these terms; the date at the top changes and the new terms are published here before they take effect. Continuing to use the app after that means you accept them. If we ever shut the service down, we will give notice and stop selling credits.

12. Ending

You can stop using the app at any time and delete your account in the app. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms; if so we will say why unless the law prevents it.
